Guitarist and composer



 

Rainer Stegmann, born near to Aschaffenburg, Bavaria, Germanyis a classical guitarist, composer and music teacher. 

He studied in Frankfurt/Main at the University of Music and at Dr.Hoch's Conservatory.

His musical focus is clearly in the field of contemporary music. Rainer Stegmann has performed numerous rarely heard contemporary chamber music and solo works for guitar. Renowned composers such as Ulrich Schultheiss, Daniel Oliver Moser and Tomasz Skweres have dedicated works to him. 

His CDs Soundscapes I, II and III with works by Britten, Brouwer, Takemitsu and Smith Brindle among others, published by the classical label GENUIN, received excellent reviews and established Rainer Stegmann as an internationally respected interpreter of contemporary music. S.  CDs &  Press

Rainer Stegmann has also been active in composition since his youth. At the Frankfurt University of Music, he studied with Prof. Jürgen Blume. After that, he trained self-taught, but also in courses, e.g. with Leo Brouwer. In his compositions, he often mixes different musical styles. He loves the strict classical forms as well as the free, quasi improvisatory of contemporary music, but also rock and jazz. The music of Toru Takemitsu had a special influence on him. In 2023, his composition Strange Bird Singing in the Night for Alto Flute won the Call for Scores competition of the international UNICUM festival in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Also in 2023, his orchestral composition Après la guerre won the Laureate Gala Award of the Progressive Musicians, New York. World premiere of Après la guerre on the 4th April 2024 at Carnegie Hall, New York.

Rainer Stegmann is a lecturer in classical guitar at the Chair of Music Education at the University of Regensburg. In addition, Rainer Stegmann is a teacher of classical guitar at the Musikgymnasium of the Regensburger Domspatzen.

In 2016, Rainer Stegmann founded the association UNTERNEHMEN GEGENWART together with other Regensburg musicians. The aim of the association is to promote contemporary music both in the region and internationally. Currently, Rainer Stegmann is the 2nd. Chairman.  https://www.unternehmengegenwart.com
